The Significance of seeing Dermatology Out-patient with¢¥ the Purpose of Detecting Leprosy Patient

Abstract
It is well known that leprosy patients can recover completely if they are dete¡þcted and treated early. Since leprosy is only slightly contagious it can be treated as any other infectious diseases in General Hospital. In the past, however, leprosy treatment at General Hospitals has proven problematic due to the stigma attached to leprosy. This has hindered effective treatment of leprosy patients and other
1
patients in the same, hospital. As a result of this leprosy treatment has been confined to Special Skin. Clinics Leprosy Mobile Clinics or General Hospital De¡þrmatology Departments.
From 1967-1975 the Chilgok Catholic Skin Clinic has served to detect and treat leprosy patients in conjunction with common skin diseases. The clinic was built for the sole purpose of such work. The authors have researched and analyzed the
result of patients data, at this clinic, the advantages of this clinic are as follows:
The sum total of leprosy and skin disease patients seen at Chilgok Skin Clinic far outnumbers those seen in the out-patient dermatology departmentat Kyungpook National University Hospital, Dongsan Presbyterian Hospital, and Fatima Hospital all of which are located in Daegu. Although the clinic attracts patient¢¥s from all over Korea the greatest proportion of patients live within a relatively close radius to Chilgok.
Both the number of lepromatous patients and the number- of female leprosy patients using the clinic¢¥s facilities is comparatively high.
The clinic serves as a supplementary aid to the mobile Clinic¢¥s main function of leprosy case finding while also having a significant role in the treatment
leprosy :patients in Daegu.
Therefore, the authors conclude that similar clinics located on the boundaries of large cities could greatly aid effective leprosy control in Korea.
